Section 1Corrections

Corrections are the most useful thing you can send, and the more specific the better. A venue that has moved or closed, a ferry that no longer runs in the month a page says it does, a road closed for a second season, an address that has changed: these are the errors that make a reference worse than useless, because a wrong detail is more damaging than a missing one.

If you can include where you saw the correct information, or simply that you were there last week, it shortens the checking considerably. Where a correction changes something substantive, the review date on the page changes with it, so you can tell from the page itself that it has been looked at.

The method behind those review dates is set out on about this site.

Section 2Questions about a trip

Questions are welcome, with one honest limitation: this is a reference site rather than a travel agency, so it cannot book anything, cannot quote a price and cannot check availability. What it can do is answer the kind of question the pages themselves are built around, which is usually a question about sequencing rather than about price.

Questions that tend to get a useful answer: how many days a section of coast realistically needs, whether two destinations combine sensibly on one trip, which month avoids a particular problem, whether a connection is long enough. Questions that do not: what a specific hotel costs next April.

If the answer turns out to be generally useful it will usually end up on the relevant page rather than staying in an inbox, which is where a good deal of this site has come from.

Section 3Commercial enquiries

Commercial enquiries go to the same address. Two things are worth knowing before writing.

Placement is not for sale. Nothing on this site is ordered by payment, no entry has been added or removed at a commercial request, and that is not a negotiating position. Where a page links to a commercial operator, the page says so.

Venue and operator corrections from the business itself are treated exactly like any other correction, which is to say welcomed and then checked independently. If a venue listed here has changed its address, hours or membership terms, telling us directly is the fastest route to the page being right.

Section 4What to expect

Email is read by a person rather than routed to a ticketing system. A reply usually takes a few working days, and corrections are acted on before they are acknowledged, so it is entirely possible the page is fixed before the reply arrives.

Press and syndication enquiries should say so in the subject line. Requests to reproduce material from this site are generally granted for reasonable extracts with attribution and a link.
