Laos Holidays
Laos tends to often get overshadowed by its more popular neighbors like China and Vietnam, but if you’re looking for an interesting new place for your next vacation, consider taking your holiday in Laos! The country may not be such a popular tourist destination compared to other Asian nations, but there’s still plenty to see and satisfy your cravings for a delightful holiday.
Laos is known for some of the best coffee in the world, taking great pride in the quality of its produce. Bear in mind though, coffee is treated and drank a bit differently here – people rarely sweeten theirs at all, so if you like sugar and milk you may have a bit of a hard time finding a place that serves coffee to your liking.
Cave exploration is a great way to spend your holiday in Laos, and if you want to go for some spelunking try the Pak Ou caves, which can be reached by means of a boat trip. The caverns are filled with Buddha statues that have been built over many centuries by local residents – quite an amazing and humbling sight.
Buddhism plays a major role in the life of Laos residents, and there’s even a whole Buddha park open to visitors – called the Xieng Khouan, it holds an impressive collection of various statues places all around the park – but the most impressive piece of all is no doubt the large statue of Buddha towering above all the others.
The place is quite large and the statues are spread all around it, so if you like exploring (and playing a cultural version of Where’s Waldo, if you will), this is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Plan your time properly though, as access to the park can be a bit tricky in the later hours.
