Borneo Holidays
Borneo is known by many for being the third largest island in the whole world, spread between the countries of Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia. Its rich history and beautiful scenery make it a great place for any traveler, no matter what type of holiday you are interested in. There is certainly lots to explore in Borneo though, so what should you do when you’re there? Most people don’t even have a good idea for a good starting point!
If you are interested in the cultural value of your holidays, pay a visit to the Monsopiad Cultural village – it’s not far from Kota Kinabalu (which should be a good departure point for your trip, by the way). The village used to be run by a notorious headhunter, known as Monsopiad – and it’s currently a historic site operated by his direct descendants. You can even see his famed trophies of 42 skulls and one single thighbone in one of the village’s huts, appropriately named the House of Skulls.
And if you want to get some rest and relaxation while observing wildlife, you can pay a visit to the Sepilok Rehabilitation Center, where you can see how different animals are taken care of on a daily basis. This is where various animals in troubled situations are given new homes, instead of being sent to the zoo.
And finally, if you want something a bit more odd, you could visit Kuching – which means “cat” in the Malay language, and the dozens of cat statues spread around the town would quickly show you why. To top it off, it has a whole museum dedicated entirely to cats, where you can find out anything there’s to know about cats. Definitely an interesting place even if you are not a cat lover in general, just for its uniqueness.
