Lovers of animals and nature are usually very keen on the popular activity of going on a safari. And as exciting as it may be, it can also be quite dangerous – or at least disappointing – if you are not prepared accordingly and do not know what to expect. If you’re a first-timer on an African safari, there are some things you absolutely need to know in order to make your trip a safe as well as productive one.
First, you should know that a safari usually costs quite a bit of money – especially an African safari for those outside of the continent. If you want to save up some money, you should go for a shorter safari – since the length is usually the most decisive factor. You may even vouch to navigate yourself – e.g. without a guide – but that is a highly unadvisable option for newcomers since it can be very tricky the first few times.
On the other hand, if you want to make your African safari the best one possible without regards to the money spent, there are always some luxury options, which would provide you with all sorts of benefits, like extra drinks, food and other provisions during the trip, professional guidance, as well as high-grade tents for a safe and relaxing night’s sleep. As we said though, these things tend to cost highly – upwards of $1,000 for one single night, so know what your budget is like before making a decision.
Prepare yourself for any mishaps as well – vaccinate yourself against possible diseases, and know what the political situation is like in the country you’re visiting to avoid any unpleasant surprises from your run-ins with the law. Always know what the customs are like at the local area you are visiting and obey them to stay safe.
